Many-many moons ago, long before the land of the free and home of the brave was fundamentally transformed into the land of the deceived and home of the depraved, there was a popular, and very funny, TV show called Saturday Night Live, or SNL for short. It starred the original “Not Ready for Primetime Players,” and featured (in alphabetical order) Dan Ackroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtain, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman and Gilda Radner, most of whom went on to achieve great stardom in some of the greatest comedy successes of the previous century. Perhaps that is why today, if you mention some of these stars names, a lot of young folks don’t know them, even the more successful ones.
But there was one particular character from one of their skits that became sort of a cult classic and for the actor who played him, it arguably became his signature character on the show and resulted in this character’s frequent returns to the show. Played by Garrett Morris, his Chico Esquela character was also one of my favorites. How his character came to be and his popularity in the role is detailed in this 1987 LA Times article by Scott Ostler entitled “There Will Never Be Another Met Quite Like Chico” and in this clip from an interview with Garrett Morris on YouTube from the Archive of American Television.
Rather than rehash it all here, I’ll just ask you to visit the two links. The video is only about three-and-a-half minutes in length and the article will take about the same amount of time to read. In brief, Chico is a latino baseball player who played for the NY Mets and speaks very limited English. His character became famous, as well as a cult classic for two “tag lines” that went: “Base-e-bol been berry-berry good to me” and “Keep jew eye on d’bol.” Sadly, such comedy couldn’t be aired today because of “Woke” culture’s war on sanity and “cultural appropriation.” Today, it wouldn’t even matter that Morris just so happens to be black. It seems that we’ve devolved into madness that far.
I want to focus this week’s rant on that second line ““Keep jew eye on d’bol” because with all the nonsense going on today and with the speed at which things are being deliberately and desperately thrown at us, it’s important for us, particularly as Christian’s in these, what I believe to be the birth-pangs we were warned about that precede, the last days before Christ’s return to focus on what is important and disregard all the “distractions” (shiny objects) our self appointed betters in the media are throwing our way at the behest of their oligarch masters.
In a nutshell, our weapons in this war are NOT carnal and as such, there is no political solution to what is coming our way. Adding insult to injury, you are most definitely NOT going to “Live Your Best Life Now!” nor is God going to shower you with wealth just because you “sowed a seed” giving your hard earned money to some Elmer Gantry wannabe in an Armani Suit wearing his Rolex watch on his Sunday morning TV show. We’re NOT going to vote for our salvation and there is NO man who is going to be our savior apart from Christ himself.
As such, I’m not expecting Donald J. Dumpsterfire to save us, let alone win the 2024 elections. If we even get that far, meaning our currently “S-elected” dear leader doesn’t start a direct conflict with Pootie over Ukraine or deliberately lose WWIII to Winnie Xi “Pooh Bear” Jinping over Taiwan.
First of all, I don’t think Comrade Jo “Beijing” Bi Deng has the mental acuity necessary to stand up to either! The poor schmuck can’t even articulate a simple sentence without doing what his former boss, the Obama-Nation of desolation paid for out of the profits of George Soros, warned us all about. But, to be fair, if I had Obama’s whole arm so far up my backside that you couldn’t tell where he ended and I began, I doubt I’d be able to articulate things very well either. Besides, if you can’t see that our elections are rigged so that the oligarchs get the outcome they want, I don’t know what to tell you.
So in spite of all the libertarian and/or conservative cheerleading going on by the likes of Alex Jones, Steve Bannon, the awakening of former progressive liberals like the lovely and talented Dr. Naomi Wolf, the entry of an honest liberal Democrat like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. into the fray to take on the dear leader of the formerly free world aren’t going to change what has been foreordained from the foundation of the world by the almighty. Things are about to get F-Ugly! Don’t look to any man to change that.
So what do we do? (Not a complete list and in no particular order)
First, repent! Go to God in prayer and make a solemn promise to follow him and only him. If you have what you know to be “sin” (knowing to do good and not doing it) in your life, stop it and start doing good, even to those who H8 you and will betray you.
Second, stop behaving or acting like the lost and demanding of others. That includes demanding justice for yourself in the here and now. We all need to learn to turn the other cheek and to leave the “justice” thingy to God. This will accomplish at least two things in my mind and hopefully this little tidbit of information will help you when the time comes:
Justice is what we all hope for but, “demanding” justice for yourself is selfish and, by actively seeking it, you could be usurping God’s position as the righteous judge. Just remember that if anyone wrongs you in this life, they will have to answer for it one day and the Judge who will preside over that court is righteous!
Sub-point two is that if someone strikes you on the right cheek, most people being right handed, implies that they probably back-handed you. They struck you as a subordinate or an inferior. Turning the left cheek to them isn’t just a sadistic wish on your part for more pain, although you should probably expect it, instead, it forces them to slap you with either an open palm or make a fist and hit you again meaning that this time, they’re striking you as an equal. We may be sheep amongst wolves but we’re also children of the king so we should behave like one.
Third, prepare yourself physically, mentally and spiritually! By saying prepare, I’m not insisting that everyone go out and become a prepper. The way things are going, it may already be too late to do much more than stock up and have some cash on hand. Go to the Lord in prayer and ask Him what you should do and then do it, do it now. For those of you who have been preparing for the worst, I hope you’ll use what you’ve gathered in your barns to help others over saving just yourselves. It could be that God will use what you have to bring more people into the Kingdom. Remember Joseph and how his preparing for the seven years of famine saved many. See my final point for more on that.
Fourth and related to point number one, make sure you’re in and do all you can to remain in the faith! In the troubling times that are coming, the scriptures say many will fall away. Now I’m not here to debate the two main views here. We all know that the Calvinists among us will tell you if someone falls away, they were never really with us in the first place. Our Arminian brethren will say that although “the gate” (Jesus) may be straight, we need to remember that narrow is the way to salvation and consequentially, it is possible for someone who once may have truly believed to fall away from the faith. They’ll insist that this is why the Apostle Paul told us to run the race to the finish to win the ultimate prize that awaits us. Again, not here to debate that point. What you believe and how you act upon it is up to you and we all have to answer for our own selves. That is why I always admonish people to be humble and while hoping for the best, prepare for the possibility that we might be wrong.
And finally, don’t forget our commission! Jesus commanded us to go out and preach the Gospel! And what gospel did he tell us to preach? Was it just to say a prayer and “presto-chango” you’re in the club? No! Were told to preach The Gospel of the Kingdom. It was more than just what to do to join the club. It was that we’re supposed to live like we’re citizens of heaven. We need to live Holy or separate lives as an example to others. We need live like we’re children of the King who’s on a journey, who’s return will be soon and we’re on the welcoming committee. Keep your focus on what matters most! “Keep jew eye on d’bol.”
